"Only one who wanders, finds new paths"

Going Uttarakhand? Here is a list of things to get done, look forward to, be careful of and remember before planning your trip to Uttarakhand.
- Permit: Tourists do not need any permit to travel anywhere in Uttarakhand except some trekking expeditions.
- Mobile Network: Always carry multiple SIM cards (BSNL, Airtel, Vodafone and Jio).
- Carry Cash: Do carry cash all the time and try to use card wherever possible. A lot of places in Uttarakhand accept cash only. So, carry enough cash with you or exchange your currency in advance at an authorized foreign exchange outlet or bank before you drive to the remote area.
- Google Maps: Do not depend on Google so much.
- Timings: Unlike other big cities and places, the markets and shops close down very early in Uttarakhand. Most places do not have night life. Enjoy during day and rest at night. That’s the best way to enjoy here. Shops open late and close early.
- Packing: Never forget to pack heavy woollen clothes if you are visiting in winters.
- Essential: Always pack a separate pouch for your essentials such as Chargers, power banks and torches. Moreover, when you are going for a trekking or camping expedition these gadgets can be very helpful. Make sure you pack a pair of trekking shoes or at least a pair of comfortable trainers. Even if your itinerary doesn’t involve hiking.
- First-aid: One should take a medicine box with them during travelling and if they are going to trekking then it becomes an important thing.
- Useful: Always carry your Driving license along with your ID and address proof. Don’t ever forget your vehicle papers (if you are travelling in your personal car).
- Photography: Do not disrespect the locals and always ask for their permission before taking pictures.
- Prohibited Areas: Do not enter / go any places where entry is restricted.
- Pre-Booking: Do book travel packages from a trusted company, especially in Char-Dham Yatra season.
- Respect Locals and culture: The locals of Uttarakhand are warm and affable but many of them are also protective of their culture, especially in rural areas. Few of the locations and things in Uttarakhand are very much sacred. Hence the visitors must reveal exact same kind of regard to holy idols, areas, trees etc as the residents do.
